U16 Girls Compete in Orange Classic

The Far Post U16 Girls team traveled to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida from December 26-31 to compete the Orange Classic Tournament.  This event, one of the top competitive tournaments in the United States, started in 1980 with 16 teams and has grown to over 350 teams in 2003.  This year, the event drew teams from 22 states in the US and several teams from Canada, Holland, Belgium, Denmark, Columbia.

In addition to the wide spread representation of teams, the Orange Classic attracts over 300 college coaches from Divisions 1, 2, 3 and NAIA schools.  The tournament has helped hundreds of girls showcase themselves and earn scholarships to play soccer in college.

The Far Post U16 Girls team was the first from Vermont to attend this tournament.  They finished third in their bracket, playing:

  • Concorde Fire Black (Georgia); won 2-1
  • Nightmares (NY); lost 0-1
  • Kendall Hammocks ( Florida ); lost 0-3
One of the highlights of the trip was the team’s attendance at a clinic and book signing featuring Brandi Chastain. (see photo at right)

Great Valentine Gift Opportunity !  To help defray the costs of attending this event, the team has been selling custom-designed Nalgene water bottles and Hooded Sweatshirts.  These items would make great Valentine gifts for your favorite Far Post athlete, coach, team manager, parent, etc.!

  • The navy blue water bottles sell for $12 each or 2 for $20 and come in two designs – the wide mouth or loop-top.
  • The hooded sweatshirts are Far Post navy with our FPSC acronym centered in white on the front and sell for $35 each.  A variety of sizes are still available from Youth Small to Adult XL.

If you wish to assist the U16 Girls with their fundraising by ordering any of the above items, click here.

Recycle Soccer Gear!

Tired of old soccer gear cluttering up your house?  The Far Post U17/18 Girls team is spear-heading the first ever Far Post Soccer Gear Recycle Drive.  Now you can recycle “gently used,” but still playable gear by bringing it to the recycle drive from February 12th-March 12th.  The gear will be sorted and sent to the Eurosport Passback Program, which donates the gear to teams/organizations who are unable to afford even the most basic soccer equipment.  The founders of the Eurosport soccer equipment company, Brendan and Mike Moylan, founded Passback in 1989, and since then have donated gear to groups in all 50 states and to over 80 countries around the world.

Gather your gear!  We will be collecting clean uniform shirts, shorts, socks, shin-guards, and cleats as well as goalkeeper jerseys and gloves.  Bring items to the Sports and Fitness Edge and deposit it the clearly marked containers in the field house!  We’d like to see how many ‘team sets’ we can acquire … a team set consists of 10 or more of any one item.  Team sets can be jerseys, shorts, shoes, socks, shinguards, or balls.  Feel free to send whatever you no longer need, as long as it is still in useable condition.  If you can't play in it, please don't send it.

Other ways to assist with this project:

  • Volunteer some time to assist with the sorting and packaging of gear – a great community service project for high school players; great club spirit building for parents, coaches, etc.!
  • Feel free to make a monetary donation to cover shipping expenses:  Make checks payable to Far Post Soccer Club, Inc. and send to P O Box 2016, South Burlington , VT 05407-2016 – please clearly indicate that the remittance is for the FPSC Gear Recycle Drive.
