U14 Girls European Tour 2005 Wendy Elles

In April, the Far Post U14 Girl’s Team took to the road for its trip abroad to the Netherlands and Belgium. The team toured Holland for a total of ten days which included four matches against teams from Holland and Belgium including a regional, select team.  The trip included superb training and a wonderful opportunity for the team to experience a culture historically rich in soccer.

The schedule included a mixture of training, playing and sightseeing around Holland. Based at the Hotel Vuught and Hostel Dousberg Parc, the team trained daily at a local site highlighted by the spectators of grazing cows and cute little sheep. The team would rise, eat and practice and have personalized tours by means of their "A" team comprised of our tour guide Hub and the coach driver Kishyor of Euro-Sportring. They both lent a local flavor and family atmosphere to the tour which made it easy for everyone including the coaches. Of course the main reason for the tour was to play, and play we did!

In the first three matches, the team played against Sparta ’25, RKVV Schijndel, and Belgium RKTSV.  After conceding a goal in the first five minutes of the first game, the girls went unbeaten and scored 10 unanswered goals. The final match of the tour was against a KNVB Regional Women’s Team with many national level players. The evening match was played in a quaint stadium but the game turned out not to be one which would be termed as such. The opposing team outmatched our girls although we were honored to have the privilege to play against such a high caliber team.  In the end although the girls didn't get the win, it was a good performance and a total team effort.  Following the matches, the team was invited back to the teams’ clubhouses for a post-game snack and cup of ‘tea.’  The post game gatherings were highlighted by our girls teaching our opponent how to use pre-wrap and graciously giving them our famed orange pre-wrap.

Our mornings and afternoons were spent with trainer Lei Janssen of the Dutch Federation KNVB. Lei provided incredible training in an atmosphere where the girls could laugh and work very hard.  The girls befriended our trainer, often referred as crazy, old man by our coach driver Kishyor.

On the last evening of the tour, the girls joined up with the boys in Eindhoven to experience perhaps the most exciting event in Holland . PSV Eindhoven secured the Eredivisie Championship and we were all dazzled by the stadium atmosphere and the level of play shown by both professional sides. The post-game celebrations and chanting left all feeling animated and energized, yet ready for our return to the states the following day.

Highlights of the Tour

  • 3-1 record with excellent play and training

  • Team Talent Night at Local Club where the girls performed their best talents on stage

  • Meeting the Den Bosch players and running across their stadium pitch

  • PSV Championship

In the end Euro Tour 2005 was an exciting, memorable experience for all. The time and experience prepared the girls for their season and will live in their memories forever.

The U17-18 Girls went up against some stiff competition at the Oakwood (CT) tournament. The Girls made it to the semi-finals of the tournament, but lost to Connecticut FC.

At Needham, the level of competition was the highest our teams have experienced at this tournament. Top New England clubs such as The Boston Bulldogs, Boston Renegades, Western Massachusetts Pioneers, and Cape Cod Crusaders were among the 250 teams in attendance.  Also, most of the Far Post teams were playing in higher, more competitive divisions this year, which made for some really tough match-ups for all teams involved.  Far Post teams had five teams make it to the semifinals.

Did you know that Far Post was a ‘featured club’ on the Needham website?  Take a look!

Congratulations to all Far Post teams for a great weekend of soccer, and thanks to all parents for your support!

Far Post Congrats 5 State Cup Champions!

The Annual State Cup weekend is always an exciting weekend and this year was no exception.  Far Post came away with five state champions and five runners-up, which is more than ever before.

  • The U13 Girls beat Burlington Lakers, 3-2 ~ Billy Kohlasch would have been proud of their class, skill and determination.

  • The U17-18 Girls beat Nordic 2-1 in sudden victory overtime, entering the weekend with only 13 players healthy enough to play and having to play two 90-minute matches in the heat.  After a number of great chances for both sides, Erin Pichiotino scored an unimaginable goal with only six seconds left in the second overtime for the win.

  • The U13 Boys came from behind to beat Nordic U13 Premier, 2-1, on goals from Staige Davis and Noah Johnson

  • The U15 Boys battled the Nordic U15 Premier through a scoreless regulation and overtime and won on penalty kicks with the final goal being scored by Louie Orleans

  • The Far Post U18 Boys (below) became the first Far Post team to win four consecutive State Cup championships by beating Addison United 2-1 on first half goals from Chris Sappo and Ashley Miller.

Our State Cup Champs now head to Virginia Beach to play in the Regional Championship against the other 14 state champions from Region One (New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut,  West Virginia, Virginia, Pennsylvania West, New York West, New Jersey, Maryland, Eastern Pennsylvania, Eastern New York, Delaware) from June 30-July 5, 2005.

The U12, U14 and U16 Boys, as well as the U12, U14, U15 and U16 Girls represented the club well in their respective matches and have much to be proud of.  Club Executive Director and U15 Girls Coach Todd Kingsbury said, "What counts most in sports is not necessarily the victory, but the magnificence of the struggle."

Congratulations to all Far Post teams and best wishes to our State Cup Champs in Virginia Beach !

Jodi Kenyon Accepts Endicott Position

Endicott College recently announced that Jodi Kenyon has accepted the head women's soccer coach position.  Kenyon comes to Endicott with a wealth of collegiate coaching experience to replace Dina Gentile, who is stepping aside after 11 very successful seasons.

ODP Well Represented by Far Posters!

The Vermont Olympic Development Program is part of the USYSA ODP, a national identification and developmental program designed to identify and develop the most talented, committed youth soccer players and give them the opportunity to represent their state, region, and country through state, regional, inter-regional, and international competitions.

One of the primary goals of the Vermont ODP is to give these players the opportunity to be evaluated and chosen for participation in the Regional ODP teams by having the players participate in the Region I Tournament (to be held June 11-13 at Rider University in New Jersey) and the Region I Identification Camp.

The ODP tournament is attended by the 13 states of Region I. It is a high profile tournament with the level of play significantly higher than most other tournaments in the country. The Region I tournament is attended by Regional Coaches aiming to identify participants for ID Camp in July.

The Identification Camp offers Vermont youth the opportunity to play, train and be evaluated by top coaches in the US . At certain age levels the participants are regrouped into new teams. Vermont youth are coupled with youth from any of the 13 Region I states. The ID Camp generally lasts 5 days. The participants receive coaching sessions each day along with competitive small sided and 11v11 matches.

Congratulations to the following Far Post players who have been selected to the Olympic Development Program for this season.
