Fall Programs Kick Off New Season

September marks a new fiscal year for Far Post and the beginning of the 2005-2006 season.  It also means ‘back to school!’  While most of our older athletes are busy participating in their respective high school programs, Far Post focuses on the younger player with its Fall program line up:  Fall Far Post Juniors, Fall Development League and Fall Schools of Excellence.  It’s ‘back to school’ at Far Post for players from age 4 through 14!

Far Post Juniors

“Juniors” is a fun and instructional program for young players between the ages of 4 and 6 years old.  The goal of the program is to foster a love of the game while improving the skills of young players. This increasingly popular program has now been expanded to a Tuesday night session and Thursday night session, and TWO fall programs!

Fall Development League

“We at Far Post believe that our Fall Development League is the answer for players who feel like school or rec soccer is not enough,” says Education Director Ben Hardy.  “FDL provides comprehensive individual skill building and team awareness by holding trainings on Tuesday nights and round-robin Futsal matches on Thursdays.  Futsal is the internationally recognized mode of indoor soccer, with no boards to reward poor passes and a “reduced-bounce” ball to encourage control and maximize touches.  FDL also acclimates players to the indoor game and prepares them for the long winter of indoor play.”

  • Participants:  Boys and Girls, ages 7-12
  • Location:  Sports & Fitness Edge in Williston
  • Dates:  September 13 through October 20; Tuesday and Thursday evenings
  • Program Length:  12 sessions ~ 2 evenings/week for 6 weeks
  • Time ~ U10 Boys & Girls:  5:00 p.m. – 6:15 p.m. (Tuesdays & Thursdays)
  • Time ~ U12 Boys & Girls:  6:15 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. (Tuesdays & Thursdays)
  • Registration Fee:  $150 per players
  • Registration Deadline:  Tuesday, September 6
  • Players will receive a team-specific T-shirt for the program

Schools of Excellence

Far Post Soccer Club's Schools of Excellence provide a variety of soccer skill-building educational programs for players of all ages. The primary goal of these programs is to foster a love of the game while teaching the fundamental skills of soccer. Emphasis is placed on individual ball skills and fun skills-related games. Events are staffed by highly skilled trainers. Each day's activities include "skill of the day" practice and development and application, fun and related games, match time, and evaluation/analysis. The Fall Schools of Excellence offer five unique instructional programs, designed for the U10 through U14 player.

Golf Tournament Plans in Full Swing

While tournament organizers are busy finalizing event details, registrations from players and sponsors have begun streaming in for this exciting day of golf to benefit the U14 Boys trip to Holland next Spring. The tournament will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2005 at the West Bolton Golf Club.  The golf club has most graciously donated its facilities for our tournament, and we are excited to be playing there! Save this date and plan to register to play!  You’ll be supporting the fundraising efforts and enjoy a great golfing day in the fall foliage of Vermont .

Tournament organizers have limited participation to 100 golfers -- so get your registration in early.  Register as a team of four, a twosome or on your own.  They’ll match up players to fill all teams.  The entry fee is $75 per player and the registration deadline is October 5, 2005.

Tee sponsorships are available for businesses that might enjoy special recognition and visibility.  For $250 your company can take advantage of a valuable marketing opportunity and field two players!  Additional information can be found on the official registration form.

If you have any questions, please contact Karen Nevin at karen.nevin@vsc.edu or Amy deGroot at degroot@together.net.  Join the fun at West Bolton on October 8th.  It’s going to be a great tournament!

Far Post Alum Player of the Month

The Vermont Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association (VSSA) recently named Ashley Pfaff the female Athlete of the Month for July.  Ashley was a member of Far Post’s U17/18 Girls team this past season and a Rice Memorial High School standout.  This summer she was named to the Vermont Twin-State Soccer Team and during the annual Lions Club Twin-State Soccer Cup match, was a key player in Vermont ’s win over New Hampshire , 6-3.  Pfaff, an All-New England selection and Gatorade Vermont Player of the Year last fall, took her game to the next level, playing with the Vermont Lady Voltage this past summer.  There, she helped them post a pair of 1-0 wins in July in the Northern Division of the United Soccer League's W-League.  She scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over the New Hampshire Lady Phantoms on July 13 and tallied her seventh goal of the season on July 24 in a 1-0 win for the Lady Voltage over Rochester (N.Y.) Ravens.  Ashley will play at Middlebury College this Fall.  (Note:  former Far Poster Erin Oliver of Essex Junction also players for Middlebury!)

The monthly winners will be honored at the VSSA's annual Vermont Athlete of the Year Banquet next June at Norwich University .
