Soccer = Fun for Far Post Juniors!

Far Post Juniors is a fun-packed soccer program for young children!

  • The primary goal of the program is for the participating children to have fun!

  • Our secondary goal is for the children to be introduced to the world’s most popular team sport, soccer!

Far Post Soccer Club ensures that our coaches have the right personality, demeanor and overall understanding of how to teach soccer to children between the ages of 4 and 6.  During our 6-week session, your child will participate in a group with approximately a 10:1 child to coach ratio.  These groups are typically co-ed and broken into age groups by year.
Our staff of soccer coaches has developed a series of fun, thematic games designed to teach the children the very basics of soccer.  Games such as the Castle Game, Monster Truck Derby, Red Light Green Light, Sharks & Minnows, and Vacation Time are used to teach the children soccer in a fun-filled, safe and constructive environment.  Each 1-hour class has two or three water breaks for the children (water and snacks should be provided by the parent).  Typically, the hour is made up of some fun games with 10-15 minutes of small sided games.

Every participant receives a Far Post Juniors Soccer t-shirt at the first class and “surprises” such as soccer stickers or patches at the end of each session.  Far Post Juniors is a “must” for the young athlete!  Enroll your favorite youngster today!  Use eRegister!

Far Post’s U10 Program is to Travel Teams as …

… Kindergarten is to Elementary School!  Why?  Well, the Far Post U10 program introduces young athletes to the travel team experience ~ from regular indoor training sessions to the outdoor season, complete with opportunities for league and tournament play.  Like kindergarteners, Far Post’s U10 boys and girls receive special mentoring and nurturing from coaches whose primary goal is to foster the love of soccer in young players!  The Jamboree weekends for example, provide great match experience and the kids have loads of fun!  And, when the U10 players ask their coach the game score, the typical response is "0-0!"

For more information, visit the U10 Travel Team page on the Far Post Website. You’ll see that U10s are truly special at Far Post. If you have or know of an interested U10 aged player (born after 8/1/1995), tryouts are Sunday, September 11 & 18 at 9 a.m. for the girls, and 10 a.m. for the boys.  Both sessions are at Farrell Park, off Swift Street, South Burlington. For further information, contact Todd Kingsbury at todd@farpostsoccerclub.com or 863-8161.

VSL Seeks Coordinator/Scheduler

The Vermont Soccer League (VSL), formerly the Green Mountain Soccer League, is seeking personnel to fill the positions of Division 1 (D1) Coordinator and Division 1 Scheduler for the 2006 season. One person could do both jobs if they are very organized and have some time in the Spring.  Both positions are compensated on the basis of twenty dollars per team for each position.  (The number of teams varies, but usually it’s around eighty.)  Here is a brief job description for each position:

VSL D1 Coordinator:  is the single point person for communications between the clubs and the VSL and chief responder to all questions.

 Tasks

  • Get application and any other information for upcoming year to the VSL webmaster
  • Set and send deadlines
  • Coordinate a fall meeting to discuss the upcoming spring season (may be able to do this via email)
  • Collect the applications and application fee
  • Send fees to VSL bookkeeper
  • Create divisions
  • Find a scheduler if one does not exist
  • Create a schedule of ‘who plays who’ and get this to the scheduler
  • Once the schedule is complete, calculate and send referee bills
  • Send a copy of bills to the bookkeeper for record keeping
  • Review weekly referee match reports and handle any issues that arise
  • Calculate standings (or delegate to someone)
  • Handle any scheduling conflicts and forfeits
  • Notify referees via USOfficials website of any time and game changes (game changes are not normally allowed with the exception of weather and field problems)
  • Attend VSL Board meetings when necessary

VSL D1 Scheduler:  is responsible for creating the VSL D1 schedule.

 Tasks

  • Contact clubs to find out rough schedule for field availability
  • Once application deadline is reached the Coordinator will send you a list of matches (‘who plays who’)
  • Build schedule and send out for review on March 15 (or sooner)
  • Final schedule (in USOfficials format) is sent to Referee Assignor

Both positions are being vacated by Rik Dayvie who has served the League in these roles for seven years.  Rik has given generously of his time to the soccer community having served several years on the board of directors of Far Post and also as a team manager.  He also has past years of service with the Vermont Soccer Association (VSA) where he gave numerous hours over several years as the VSA’s State Cup director.

On behalf of the Far Post family, thanks, Rik, for your generous gift of time and talent for the greater good of soccer in our community!

Those interested in either or both positions may contact Rik for further information at r.dayvie@hill.com. The VSL board is hoping to fill the vacancies this Fall.
