Former Far Poster is Johnson’s Starting Goalie!

Andrew Lane, a Freshman at Johnson State College, has become the college's #1 Goalkeeper.  Andrew grew up in Charlotte, and played high school soccer at CVU in Hinesburg, graduating in 2005.  He played seven years for Far Post, beginning his goalie career as a U12 and was the team's sole goal keeper for all but one year.  His Far Post team won four State Cup Championships and enjoyed out of state tournament success as well.  At the Rochester (NY) Junior Rhinos College Showcase Tournament (Empire Cup) in 2004, Andrew lead his team to the championship without giving up a single goal the entire tournament.  At Clifton Park (NY) this past summer, the U18 Boys, finished their Far Post careers bringing home the Runner Up Trophy, after winning 4 of 6 games, including the quarter final and semi-final matches, on penalty kicks due to Andrew's outstanding saves.

This Fall, Andrew has continued in his 'traditional' #18 jersey as a freshmen goal keeper for Johnson. He has started four games for the Johnson Badgers, with a 3-1 overall record, 3-0 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play.  He has given up only 3 goals in 4 matches, for a goals-against average of 0.75 which leads the NAC.  He has made 15 saves for a save percentage of .833.

Johnson is tied for first place in the NAC at 3-0, with big weekend matches against two other 3-0 NAC teams in Maine-Maritime and Husson College on Saturday and Sunday (9/24 & 9/25), respectively. Both matches begin at 1:00 p.m. Thus far, Andrew has beaten conference foes Castleton State (who hadn't lost an NAC match in 3 years), U Maine-Farmington (JSC had not beaten in over 25 years), and Thomas College.  Andrew missed the last game against Norwich due to a slight shoulder injury but hopes to be back in action for this weekend’s big games.

Coach Kyle Dezotell on Lane:  “He has done a great job for us…he has certainly separated himself from the rest of our Goalkeepers and is clearly our # 1 choice.  Although, I have a biased opinion, Andrew is a worthy candidate for the NAC Rookie of the Year.”

Tryouts 2005 an Overwhelming Success!

A record 480 players participated in tryout sessions for Far Post’s Travel Teams for the upcoming 2005-2006 season.  176 athletes were classified as ‘new players,’ that is, not having played for Far Post last season.  New players were present at all age groups, but were more prevalent in the younger age brackets, particularly the U13s and U14s.

Notifications have been sent to all players who tried out for the U10 through U14 teams.  If you have not received notification, please contact Todd Kingsbury at todd@farpostsoccerclub.com or 863-8161.

For accepted players ~ just a reminder that the deadline to respond is Friday, September 30.  To guarantee your rostered position, we must receive ‘Acceptance of the Parent-Player Manual’ and the initial team fee deposit of $300.  This process has been streamlined through our website this year and we highly encourage all families to consider making payment online.  Here are just a few reasons to use PayPal:

  • PayPal is more secure than providing your credit card information via e-mail (which we do not recommend) or over the phone.
  • With PayPal, we never see your credit card information.
  • With PayPal, there’s no need for us to store any of your cardholder information in our files.
  • With PayPal, you receive an acknowledgement of payment via e-mail right after you’ve made payment.

If you have any questions about the administrative acceptance process or PayPal, contact Paulette Bergeron, Business Manager at paulette@farpostsoccerclub.com.  For those who prefer the traditional payment methods, these are still available, including our new mail box, located right on the wall to the left of the Far Post office door!
