Thanks for
Cleat Donations!
A
sincere thank you to those who donated cleats to our ‘Ghana project’ noted in
the June 27 issue of ePost. In
just 4 days we collected nearly 40 pair of cleats to be brought by Bentley
College students to Ghana later this summer. In addition to the cleats, Far
Post donated old Futsal t-shirts from past seasons. The shoes and colored
t-shirts will give the students a great start to their ambition of establishing
a soccer league with the pre-teens in Ghana.
Far Post
dad Tyler Wood
(Carey, U13 Boys Development Team)
is delivering the items to Massachusetts this week.

At the
Region 1 National Championship Tournament (“Regionals”)
in Virginia Beach, Executive Director
Todd Kingsbury
reported, “All Far Post teams competed very well against competition. The
level of play at Regionals continues to increase, but I feel our teams are
starting to narrow the gap. All teams played great soccer! They played with
skill, with heart – and with great team effort. The performance by all of our
teams would have made all Far Post families and Vermonters very proud.”
A few
Regionals highlights from Todd ~
-
The U12 boys, in
Regionals debut, won two matches nearly advancing to the semi-finals of the
tournament.
-
The U14 boys, in their
third trip to Regionals, demonstrated a great fight against Maryland’s
Bethesda Roadrunners keeping the game at 0-0 until the middle of 2nd
half before suffering a loss.
-
The U16 boys, making
their fourth trek to Regionals, put up a tremendous fight against the
defending national champions – the FC Greater Boston Bolts.
-
The U17 boys made their
first trip to Regionals and progressed well over the weekend. They had a
very spirited, close match against FC Greater Boston Bolts.
-
The U14 girls
participated in Regionals for the second consecutive year. In every game
played, they were very competitive with their opponents because of their
skill, hard work and team effort.
-
For some members of the
U17-18 girls team, this was their fourth visit to the Regionals. They
played tremendous second halves in their first two games and almost won
their final game.

Posters participate in ODP!
The
Vermont Olympic Development Program is part of the USYSA ODP, a national
identification and developmental program designed to identify and develop the
most talented, committed youth soccer players and give them the opportunity to
represent their state, region, and country through state, regional,
inter-regional, and international competitions.
One of the primary goals
of the Vermont ODP is to give these players the opportunity to be evaluated and
chosen for participation in the Regional ODP teams by having the players
participate in the Region I Tournament (held in June) and the Region I
Identification Camp (held in July).
The
ODP tournament
is attended by the 13 states of Region I. It is a high profile tournament with
the level of play significantly higher then most other tournaments in the
country. The Region I tournament is attended by Regional Coaches aiming to
identify participants for ID Camp.
The
Identification Camp
offers Vermont youth the opportunity to play,
train and be evaluated by top coaches in the US. At certain age levels the
participants are regrouped into new teams. Vermont youth are coupled with youth
from any of the 13 Region I states. The ID Camp generally lasts 5 days. The
participants receive coaching sessions each day along with competitive small
sided and 11v11 matches.
