Final Word on
‘05-‘06 Season
Following
their participation in the Region I National Championship event held in
Virginia Beach (Regionals) Far Post’s U12 Boys
and U14 Boys
teams were recipients of the Region I
National Championship
Fair Play Award.
The award recognizes teams for displaying positive conduct on the field toward
their opponents and game officials throughout the competition. “This is a
great honor for the Club. Throughout the long weekend, our boys showed not only
great heart and great skill; we also conducted ourselves like true sportsmen. I
am very proud of the boys for their effort and conduct,” said
Executive Director
Todd Kingsbury. Congratulations to both
teams on this fine achievement!
The U17-18 Girls
participated in their final tournament at Clifton
Park, marking the official end of Far Post’s Travel Team season. The girls
had a successful and exciting weekend, advancing to the quarter finals, and
beating Capita ASCl 5 -3 in penalty kicks. In their semi-final match, they lost
2-1 to Rochester FC in sudden death overtime!
Congratulations to the U17-18 Girls on a weekend of great soccer!

Do you have an
elementary or middle school son or daughter trying out for the school team
for the first time? Far Post’s new
First Touch Camp
is designed specifically to prepare these young players for their first soccer
experience of the fall season – tryouts. Whether they are school or club level
tryouts, the new

exercises designed to sharpen their skills and boost their confidence. The camp
is also a great way to be “seen” by Far Post staff prior to our tryouts.
High
School aged players should plan on attending our

Volunteer Appreciation
The Far Post Board of
Directors announces the appointment of
Tony Blake as the newest member of the Board. Tony (dad of Andrew-U14
and Ellie-U10) will replace retiring director
Roger Ranz (dad of
Holden U15-16 and Alum-Austin). The Board welcomes Tony and expresses
appreciation to Roger for his many years of service on the Far Post Board.
Roger will continue to be involved in soccer as a referee.
Thanks, Roger, for your contribution of time and
expertise and years of dedicated service to the Far Post Board.
The primary role of
the board is to set club policy and oversee the general vision of the club
in accordance with its mission and bylaws. The board members have
contributed over and above, working with management on the recent facilities
studies and move to a new location. The club is grateful for their
contributions of time and expertise.

Far Post’s Team Managers
play a very important role in the club, serving as the key communications
link between the office and their respective teams and their coach and
team. In addition, they generally serve as social coordinator, directions
provider, money collector, “what to bring” reminders, and much much more.
The Far Post Board and Staff extend a
very
big THANK YOU to this past season’s Team Managers for all their hard work
and dedication.

Thanks from Bentley College
“A
short conversation with Tyler Wood, and suddenly we have enough equipment to
begin a ‘Mmofra Trom League’ of more than 10 teams---all in matching shirts! We
were overwhelmed by both the quality and quantity of the donations from Far
Post, and we packed them in large boxes with great anticipation of how they will
be received in Ghana. We will be sending photos and stories! Thank you so much
for supporting AIDS orphans of Ghana.”
The above note was
received from Diane Kellogg, an Administrator from
HUGS International TLC who is working
with students from Bentley College
on the Ghana Project.
“Mmofra Trom”
means children's garden, and is located near the very tiny village of Trom
(“garden”), about an hour north of Accra, the capital city of Ghana. At Mmofra
Trom, there is a 50-acre site that is being developed to benefit the AIDS
orphans in the surrounding area. A K-9 school, scheduled to open this
September, will sponsor a "Kick-It" program that aims to attract children of all
ages, particularly pre-teens and teens, to come to the site during the day.
They will get a free soccer clinic, join a team and become part of a league ~
currently nicknamed the “Mmofra Trom League.”
Twelve Bentley College
students will go to Mmofra Trom for two weeks to get the program started.
Two students will remain for 4 months. Their actual focus is to give the
children a health screening and health care, an educational assessment, and job
skills counseling and training. Many need psychological counseling which will
most likely come informally from their soccer coach, who’s been specially
trained to lead and guide children who are still on their own and without family
to care for them. As time progresses Bentley College hopes to be involved in
helping teen-agers begin small businesses ~ create business plans, apply for
micro-loans and learn how to grow their business.
“We'll see how it all
unfolds,” says HUGS Administrator Diane Kellogg. “We think this first
effort will be a way to begin building personal relationships with the AIDS
orphans who come to Mmofra Trom. 24 live on site in homes HUGS built, and
others will come as ‘we build it’. Obviously, HUGS accepts financial donations
and has an excellent record for utilizing donations 100% toward projects.
Volunteers pay for their own travel and expenses, and HUGS administrators use
their own resources for administrative costs. I'm proud be involved, and am so
glad to have Far Post Soccer Club's
help.”
