New Positions for Franklin and Dezotell

Far Post Coach James Franklin will join the women’s soccer staff at the University of Vermont as Assistant Coach working with newly appointed Assistant Coach Steph Mead and Head Coach Kerry Dziczkaniec. James was the head coach at Norwich University from 2003 through 2005. In his three seasons at Norwich, he compiled an overall record of 27-28-2 and 14-11-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) games. 2005 season was his most successful season, with a record of 13-6-1 overall, 5-3-1 in GNAC play and a berth in the ECAC post-season tournament.  This past season, James was Head Coach for Far Post’s U12 Boys and U15 Boys First Teams.

Far Post Coach Kyle Dezotell has been named the new Head Coach for the Norwich University Men’s Soccer and Tennis Teams succeeding James Franklin.  Kyle previously served as head coach of both the men's and women's soccer teams at Johnson State College. In 2005, he led the men's program to the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) regular season title and was named NAC Coach of the Year. The Badgers finished the season with an overall mark of 8-6-4 and 6-1-2 in conference play. Dezotell's record in two seasons on the JSC bench was 11-20-7 overall and 7-7-4 in the NAC. On the women's side, Dezotell coached the Badgers for the 2005 season, finishing 5-12 in all games played and 3-8 in conference play.  Kyle was Head Coach for Far Post’s U12 Boys and U17-18 Girls team this past season.

 Congratulations, James & Kyle!

Tryouts 2006 FAQ’s

  • Where?  All tryouts will take place at Dorset Park in South Burlington.

  • Is there a fee?  There is no registration fee to tryout.  All are welcome!

  • When should players arrive?  Please plan to arrive 20-30 minutes prior to scheduled time for your age group to register and warm-up. Click here for detailed schedule!

  • How do we register?  A simple registration form will be available for completion at tryouts check-in.  All Far Post players from this past season will automatically be pre-registered.

  • Does a parent need to attend?  Parents of new players and returning Far Post players are requested to check in with their son or daughter on the first day and sign the registration form.

  • Do players need to attend both sessions?  It’s recommended that players attend both sessions if possible to maximize their tryout experience.

  • What should we do if a player can’t attend both sessions?  Please inform our personnel at check-in so it can be recorded on the player's registration form.

  • Are there any other opportunities for players to be seen if they can’t attend tryout sessions?  Yes!  Far Post is offering two August camps just before school begins.  See the next article!

  • What should we bring?  Players should be accompanied by a parent/guardian for check in on the first session.  Players should be dressed in soccer attire, ready to play (cleats, shin-guards, etc.) and should bring their water bottles!

  • Can I bring a friend?  Feel free to bring someone new along to see what Far Post is all about!

  • How & when will players be notified of tryout results?  Players will be notified BY E-MAIL (unless otherwise noted on the registration form) within a week following the second tryout session.

  • What happens after players receive their notifications?  Players/families will have about 10 days to respond to Far Post indicating their acceptance.  This will be done ONLINE, by reviewing the Travel Team Parent-Player Manual and completing the acceptance form at the end of the manual.  The acceptance form MUST be accompanied by the travel team deposit (50% of the fee.)  See calendar below for important Travel Team dates and deadlines.

Have you completed the evaluation forms for this past season?   We'd really like your input!  Below are links to two forms which will enable you to provide us with an evaluation of your travel team experience for this past season.  Simply complete the forms online.  When finished, click on 'submit' at the bottom of the form.  Your responses will automatically be emailed to Executive Director, Todd Kingsbury.  Please be sure to evaluate all coaches who worked with your team.  Evaluations are a key component in our planning process.  Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Location Change for First Touch Camp

The field venue for Far Post’s First Touch Camp has been changed to DORSET PARK.  The camp, scheduled for August 14-18, is designed specifically to prepare elementary or middle school players for their first soccer experience of the fall season – tryouts.  Is your elementary or middle school son or daughter trying out for the school team or a club-level team for the first time?  The new First Touch Camp will provide players with fitness and technique exercises designed to sharpen their skills and boost their confidence.  The camp is also a great way to be “seen” by Far Post staff prior to our try-outs!

High School aged players should plan on attending our Pre-Season Camp to prepare for their school season and tryouts.  The camp focuses on fitness, technique and player confidence ~ as these elements of the game greatly influence a player’s performance in preseason and in the season beyond.  The camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at Dorset Park from August 7-11.

Both camps are nearing capacity so register right away!  Click here to view more details on both the First Touch and Pre-Season Camps!  Note:  registrations for these programs are only guaranteed after payment is received.  If you have not yet paid, please remit by August 1 for the Pre-Season Camp and by August 7 for the First Touch Camp.
