Hold the Date!

 Attention Friends of Far Post!

Far Post's First Annual Fairway Frenzy Golf Tournament is planned for Thursday, June 21 at the Williston Golf Course.  This fundraising event and others to come, will benefit the Facilities Fit-up Campaign.  The campaign has been established to retire the start-up loan borrowed by Far Post to acquire the turf, nets and other equipment necessary to fit up our new home at The Soccer Center in Essex Junction.  When the Club moved into The Soccer Center last summer, we made a carefully thought out decision to borrow funds in order to fit up the indoor fields properly.  We could pay off the loan gradually, along with interest, but it will save a considerable amount of money if we can retire the loan early"The goal of this campaign is $15,000. Families and friends of Far Post have the opportunity to get involved by participating in the golf tournament as a player or a sponsor or by making a direct contribution," says Fundraising Chair and Far Post Board Treasurer Tim Macnee.  "The golf tournament will help the club financially, and, at the same time, build club spirit.  We hope to see all teams represented and every hole sponsored!"

Details on this worthwhile fundraising campaign and the Fairway Frenzy Golf Tournament are being sent to all Travel Team families in hardcopy.

  • Play 4v4 small-sided soccer (the foundation for the Dutch system of youth soccer development)

  • Participate in theme-of-the-day exercises and games (ball manipulations, attacking moves, etc.)

  • Compete in our daily 2v2 and 3v3 “street soccer” sessions

Will break out a group of more experienced players, including club-level players (Far Post or other).  This group will focus on slightly more advanced skills, including passing/receiving, 1v1 attacking moves, and finishing.

Camp runs Monday-Friday, June 18-22 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Dorset Park in South Burlington.  At any time, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Education Program Director, Wendy Elles, at wendy@farpostsoccerclub.com or at 802-872-8860 x 201.

Tournament Season Begins

The upcoming Memorial Day weekend marks the start of Far Post's Travel Teams Tournament Season.  The U10 Boys and Girls will travel to Wellesley, Massachusetts for the annual Wellesley U-10 Memorial Day Tournament.  The remaining 23 Far Post Teams will participate in the neighboring Needham Invitational Memorial Day Tournament.  Far Post has participated in the Needham tournament since its first season (1996-97).  The tournament organizers acknowledged our long-standing participation a couple of years ago with a feature article posted on Needham's website!  Check it out!

On June 9, the U10 Boys and Girls will travel to Rutland for a special event designed specifically for younger players ~ the 2007 Kohls American Cup Festival, sponsored by the Vermont Soccer Association and hosted by the Rutland County Soccer Club.  The following weekend, June 16-17, the U10s will join their older Far Post counterparts at the Nordic Cup event.

The First Teams will begin preliminary state cup competition this coming weekend.  Winners will continue on and vie for State Championship honors over the June 2-3 weekend.  You can find schedules for the various age brackets on the Vermont Soccer Association website.

The tournament season will wrap up with a departure from the Far Post tradition of traveling as a club:

  • The U11s and U12s will finish their season in Weston, Vermont at the Green Mountain Challenge on June 23 and 24.
  • The U13 Boys Development, U14 Girls First, U14 Boys and Girls Development, and U15 Girls and Boys Development Teams will participate in the Suffield (CT) Tournament on June 30-July 1.
  • Our successful State Champion First Teams will advance to "Regionals" in Maine and compete against champs from the other 13 states in Region I of the United States Youth Soccer Association.
  • The U13 and U17 Girls will close the season for the club at the Clifton Park Invitational, July 6-8.

Most tournaments do not post schedules until about one week prior to the event.  Team managers are monitoring the above websites and will communicate information to their respective families (the Far Post office does not have individual team schedules).  Far Post's team managers do a great job of keeping everyone informed and the club is grateful for their volunteer service!

Best wishes to all players for a successful tournament season!  Go Far Post!

The Center Circle Feature

Spotlight ~ Kyle Dezotell
Head Coach, U14 & U16 Boys First Teams

Kyle Dezotell has been involved with Far Post since 2003, when he began as an assistant coach and trainer.  Since that time he's touched the soccer lives of many Far Post players, coaching two teams each season and serving as a frequent trainer in Far Post's camps and clinics.

Outside of Far Post, Kyle is employed at Norwich University as Head Coach of the Men's Soccer and Men's Tennis Teams.  In April, Kyle was named Coach of the Year in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) following a vote of the GNAC head tennis coaches.

 Congratulations, Kyle!
