Travel Teams:  The Next Step, Paperwork!

First, at this point all Far Post travel team trialists should have received tryout results via the email address(es) provided at tryout registration.  If you have not heard from us, kindly contact us right away:  admin@farpostsoccerclub.com.

We've scheduled three Paperwork Sessions to complete the season's medical forms, have player photos taken for player passes and try on/order uniforms.  It's very important that all players come to one of the following sessions with a parent to take care of their administrative tasks.

Location:  The Soccer Center ~ North Building (Robert E. Miller Expo Centre, Champlain Valley Exposition)

  • Wednesday, October 10 ~ 5 - 8 p.m.
  • Thursday, October 11 ~ 5 - 8 p.m.
  • Friday, October 12 ~ 4:30 - 8:30 p.m.

What is needed for paperwork sessions ~ please read carefully and be sure to bring the necessary items with you!

  • Birth Certificates:  Only NEW players need to bring a copy with them; we have last year’s players’ on file.

  • Photos:  All players should accompany their parents so they can have a digital picture taken for their player passes.  If the players are unable to attend, parents should bring a 1 x 1 inch photo with them or email a digital photo to admin@farpostsoccerclub.com by October 15.

  • Medical forms:  All players must have signed medical forms on file to cover indoor, outdoor training, league and tournament play.  The forms will be pre-filled with family contact data in our records but you’ll need the following to complete the forms:

    • Your medical insurance information.

    • Date of player's last tetanus shot.

  • Futsal and Indoor League Play at The Soccer Center An Indoor League waiver must be completed and will be available at the paperwork sessions for this purpose.

  • Uniforms:  As previously announced, we have a new style uniform this year!  We'll continue with Adidas in the Far Post orange-navy-orange color scheme.  Samples will be on display in the paperwork sessions.

    • Returning players must order, at a minimum, new orange and navy jerseys and new game shorts.

    • New players must order the entire kit.

      • For U11-18 players, the estimated kit cost is $115 and includes:  orange training t-shirt, orange game jersey, navy game jersey, 1 pair navy game shorts, 1 pair orange socks, 1 pair navy socks.

      • For U10 players, the estimated kit cost is $90 and includes:  orange training t-shirt, orange game jersey, navy-numbered t-shirt (to be used as an alternate game jersey if needed), 1 pair navy game shorts, 1 pair orange socks, 1 pair navy socks.

  • Spirit Gear:  we’ll once again offer a variety of items containing the Far Post logo with samples available to try on.

  • Your travel team dues covers the state player registration fee which also includes secondary medical and liability insurance.

*** NOTE:  It’s very important to note that registration session prices for uniforms and spirit gear are a one time offering.  Late orders will be subject to higher pricing due to lower order quantities and any applicable rush fees.

If you can’t attend a paperwork session, please notify us at admin@farpostsoccerclub.com so alternate arrangements can be made to take care of these important tasks.

  • Women's ring, gold with large pink stone and two smaller stones

Introducing:  Blue Sombrero!

Far Post is pleased to announce that our new administrative software is up and running!  Over the past week, the U10 through U13 families have been registering their families through a web-based registration system hosted by Blue Sombrero, a company which specializes in soccer club administration.  What does a blue sombrero have to do with soccer?  Glad you asked!

Blue Sombrero was founded as a soccer company the name was chosen to always keep its founders close to their soccer roots. A “Sombrero” is a soccer move when an offensive player flicks the ball over a defender’s head and runs around the defender to maintain possession.  It is a name often used in Central and South America and Europe and was made famous by Ronaldinho.  It comes from the outline that is made by the ball and the path of the attacking player as he runs around the defender!

All families of U14s and older are asked to use the link below and establish their family account.  We ask that you do this by October 15 so we can migrate the entire club over to Blue Sombrero and take advantage of all that this new software offers:

  • Family-based registration:  each family establishes their own secure account accessed with an individual ‘login ID’ and password.
  • Use to register player(s) for their respective travel teams AND all other Far Post programs as well.
  • Easy online payment (no more PayPal).
  • Easy updating/editing your account information.
  • Allows families to view/track their own account balance.
  • Allows Far Post staff to manage club database more efficiently and effectively.
  • Allows for more effective communications from club office to families through Blue Sombrero's bulk email program.
  • ...and much more!

We've put together detailed instructions to guide you through the process.  Please take the time to open the file below and follow step by step!

Used Soccer Gear Wanted

Far Post is excited to help again with soccer at the global level.  A new program is starting in the Vermont soccer community to assist underprivileged children in Haiti feel hope through playing soccer. ONE TOUCH FOR HAITI will connect Vermont youth soccer players with Haitian youth players in the village of Ti Mache. You can help by donating gently used CLEATS, SHIN GUARDS, and NEW SOCKS! A dedicated youth group in Ti Mache runs a soccer program for 80 children, ages 8-18. They play bare foot on a dirt field with make shift goals. They are in need of these soccer supplies to continue growing their program.  These children, just like Vermont children, are full of enthusiasm and deserving of quality equipment.

Please help by dropping off any of these items at Far Post's Paperwork Sessions on October 10, 11 and 12.  If you have any questions, or if you want more information about how you can help children in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, please email Erika Dayton at daytongirls@pshift.com.

Two Haitian youngsters ~ future Far Posters, ready for action!

Note:  We'll run a collection for used uniform kits in the Spring ~ AFTER, our new uniforms have arrived!

"Keeping Every Body Working Well"

Parents and Players of Far Post Soccer Club,

Poulin Performance is continually working to helping all athletes with being able to compete at the highest competitive level without injury.  There is nothing worse than having to miss a practice or game due to an injury that could have been prevented such as muscle pulls, sprained ankles or back pain.  Poulin Performance’s Certified Athletic Trainers have in the past come to The Soccer Center during the indoor season to provide Far Post players the opportunity to be evaluated for injury patterns.  We would like to be able to offer this service to athletes during the outdoor season as well as coming in again during the indoor season.

The screening process consists of having the player’s hip range of motion and strength assessed through manual positioning and resistance.  This gives the Athletic Trainer a clear indication of what muscles the athlete is using while performing activities like running, jumping, kicking, etc.  We consider the hips to be the base of support for the rest of the body, so in the simplest of explanations: if the hips are not balanced then the rest of the body with be unbalanced as well.

We then look at the rest of the body through specific positioning and range of motion testing to determine how the hips have affected the rest of the body.  We expect that if there is a restriction or extra mobility in one are of the body, then we will find the opposite in another area of the body.  For example, tight hips will most often cause excessive motion through the lower back resulting in back pain or knee pain.

After collecting the individual information for the player, we recommend exercises that will help correct the players postural alignment by activating muscles the have become unused or inhibited by their adaptation to the sport of soccer.

If interested in having your son or daughter evaluated by our Athletic Trainer for injury patterns, please contact Poulin Performance directly at 658-0949.

Thank you and good luck with the outdoor season

The Center Circle Spotlight:

in Belgium with Far Poster Matt Sulva

Seventeen year old Matt Sulva of Charlotte and last year's U16 Boys Team, is spending his high school junior year studying in Bredene, Belgium.  Matt became interested in the possibility of foreign studies following his trip to Holland as a Far Post U14.  He arrived in Europe a few weeks ago and recently shared some news with club director, Todd Kingsbury.  (Above, the Bredene Coat of Arms.)

It is great to hear from you. Yes, you have heard correctly about my first game. It was last night. Unfortunately we lost 4-1 but I was happy with how I played and the amount of time I got for my first match.

 My club team is called
KSV Bredene. Bredene is the name of the small city I live in (about 15,000 people). You probably have not heard of it but the town over is Oostende and Brugges is only 15 minutes by train. The club is pretty much the club for the whole town of Bredene. There is a first team (players who are about 25-35 years old mostly), a reserve team, and a junior team. After the junior team, it goes down to youth age groups (U16, U15, etc.). I am playing on the junior team which consists of players that are 17-23. We are already 2-1, last night being the team's third match, but my first.

My host family here is very nice. My parents are named Linda and Geert. They have two children named Karen and Jochen but they are both living on their own so I am the only kid in the house. So far, everything has gone well here. I have adjusted easily to school and the family. But there is still more adjusting to do, especially with the language! For now I am having a good time with everything.

How is everything with you? Have you been watching any high school soccer lately? Better watch out for that CVU team. Anyways, I hope all is well with you in Vermont.

 Tot ziens,

 Matt
