In Memoriam

Bill Kohlasch grew up in Rye, New York where he started for 4 years on the Rye High School varsity soccer team, a perennial New York State powerhouse. During his senior year, he captained a Rye team that was ranked #1 in New York state as well as being in the top 10 of the national high school rankings.

Bill went on to play for Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. OWU has been one of the winningest NCAA soccer programs (regardless of division) for the past 20+ years.  Bill achieved All Conference, All-Mideast (including Division I, II, & III), and Honorable Mention All-American status (including Division I, II, & III) as a sweeperback during his junior and senior seasons.  In addition, he was selected as the Top Defender in Ohio (Division I, II, & III) during those years. Bill was one of ten finalists for the Today's Top Five Award, the highest honor accorded by the NCAA.  He was elected to the Ohio Wesleyan Hall of Fame in 1985.

Bill was drafted in the third round by the Los Angeles Skyhawks of the American Soccer League.  Following his college career, Bill played for various clubs in Cleveland, Ohio, Chicago, Illinois, Greenwich, Connecticut, Westchester County, NY, and Vermont.

During his soccer career, Bill received a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from Ohio Wesleyan University, followed by a Master of Science in special education from the College of New Rochelle in New York.

Bill's coaching experience includes boys varsity soccer at Orange High School in Pepper Pike, Ohio and boys and girls varsity soccer at Rye High School in Rye, New York. He was employed in both locations for many years as an elementary school teacher.

For his last 18 years Bill was a teacher in the Colchester, Vermont, school district at Malletts Bay School and coached girls middle school soccer at Colchester Middle School.

Bill was especially proud of the book he wrote in 1999 entitled "The Winners' Circle: The House That Ruth Built."  Appropriate for a New York Yankees fan.

Through Bill, and his wife Cathy, Far Post has three additional players in their children . . . Kendal, Tucker, and Kaelyn.

We're fortunate that Bill was part of the Far Post Soccer Club since its inception in 1996. With the help of his dedication, love of soccer, and wonderful teaching ability, we've attained his original vision for our club.

 Thank you, Bill!
