U10 Travel Team Program ~ 2007-2008 Season

Far Post Soccer Club considers its U10 program to be the foundation of the ClubThe U10 players are the future of the club, and special care is taken to foster the love of soccer in these youngsters!  The curriculum and activities are designed especially for their tender age. The U10 season begins in early November and runs through June.  Below is detailed information pertaining to Far Post's U10 program. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Executive Director Todd Kingsbury at 872-8860, Ext. 202 or by e-mail at todd@farpostsoccerclub.com.

Indoor Training Schedule

Like their older counterparts, U10 players begin their Far Post season training indoors.  All training sessions are held at The Soccer Center at the Champlain Valley Exposition, 105 Pearl Street, Essex Junction.  Players can expect to train 3 or 4 times per month during the indoor season (November through April).  To view the full indoor training schedule for 2007-2008, click here.

Outdoor Training

Outdoor training starts around the end of April or early May, depending on field conditions and weather. The U10s train twice a week through June. Last season, training was on Tuesdays and Fridays at Williston Central School. Training days and location will be announced later in the winter (generally around March) once field space is confirmed.

Outdoor Leagues & Friendly Games

Far Post plays in the Vermont Soccer League Division 1 (VSL-D1), however there is no U10 league in this division. Still, all clubs in VSL- D1 with U10 programs participate in an informal U10 league. The U10s have three Saturdays in May where one of the clubs will host a friendly jamboree. The U10's will gain valuable playing experience in the jamboree matches and have loads of fun too!

Tournaments

As players develop through the Far Post family, their ability to achieve success, both on and off the field, changes. We have players of varying ability levels that demand a multitude of learning experiences to best meet their needs. Since some of our players are ready for different challenges, we provide a combination of local friendly matches and jamborees as well as tournament play in addition to our training. The tournament play tends to place players in a more competitive situation.  For jamboree and tournament play, the coaches will divide the players into smaller, equal teams for the short-sided matches.  The teams will be called Far Post Orange, Far Post Blue, and if a third team exists, Far Post White. The U10's attend three tournament events (based on 2005-06 ~ The dates and exact tournaments for 2006-07 will be announced as soon as confirmed):

  • Wellesley (MA) Invitational ~ Memorial Day Weekend

  • Kohl's America Cup ~ Sponsored by the Vermont Soccer Association & Kohl's, generally the second Saturday in June

  • The Nordic Cup ~ the local tournament sponsored by Nordic Soccer Club, Fathers Day Weekend in June

Uniform Kit

All U10 players need to purchase a uniform kit (see items listed below) for an approximate cost of $90. Additional uniform items and ‘spirit apparel’ (sweatshirts, backpacks, training tops & bottoms, etc.) may be purchased at an added cost.

  • Orange, numbered jersey
  • Navy, numbered T-shirt
  • Navy shorts
  • 1 pair orange socks
  • 1 pair navy socks
  • Orange training T-shirt

Team Fee

The ‘team fee’ for a U10 player is $565 per player for the 2007-2008 season.

Parent-Player Manual

Parent/Guardians and accepted players are required to read the Club's Parent-Player Manual prior to acceptance of a rostered position on a Far Post Travel Team.  The link to this manual will be provided with the online notification of tryout results.

Futsal Leagues

Futsal is a form of indoor soccer played around the world.  It is a skill-oriented game on a smaller field without boards. The limited-bounce futsal ball remains on the ground at the feet of the players.  There is no better 'exercise' that helps players develop foot skills and a stronger understanding of the game of soccer. Special Futsal Leagues for U10 players are offered at The Soccer Center.  Detailed information will be posted soon.  In general, leagues run one evening per week, for each of three 6 or 7-week sessions.  The earliest games start at 5:00 p.m., and the latest game finishes by 8:00 p.m.  Participation in Futsal is highly recommended.  The fee for Futsal is separate from the Travel Team Fee and is based on the number of players on the Futsal Team.  In general, the cost is around $75 per player per session depending on the number of players rostered on a Futsal team.
